terms of service
the terms that govern your use of crew society. by creating an account, you agree to be bound by these terms and our privacy policy.
acceptance of these terms
by creating an account and using crew society (the "service"), operated by the crew society ("we", "us", "our"), you agree to be bound by these terms of service ("terms") and our privacy policy.
if you do not agree, do not create an account.
you must be 18 years or older and currently employed (or contracted) by an airline whose work-email domain is on our verified-airlines list to use the service.
what the service is (and is not)
crew society is a layover-discovery app for airline crew. you tell us where you are, when you're free, and what you're up for; we show you to other crew in the same city; you can knock to express interest, and chat once you've both knocked.
01it is not:
- a dating app, although nothing here prohibits the friendships that form
- an employment service or recruiting platform
- an e-commerce platform
- a messaging service for the general public, only verified crew
- a long-term storage service for your conversations, chats are deleted when your layover ends (see §07)
eligibility & account
3.1who can sign up
- 18 or older
- currently airline crew (cabin / pilot / ground) at an airline whose email domain we have verified
- verifying you have a working email at that domain via our one-time-code flow constitutes your representation that you meet the above
3.2one account per person
- one person, one account
- no bots, no automated registrations
- use your real first name and a real photo of yourself if you upload one. misrepresentation may result in account termination.
3.3your account credentials
- authentication is by one-time code sent to your work email
- treat your work-email inbox as a credential, anyone with access to it can authenticate as you
- sign out other devices via settings if you suspect compromise
- notify us at contact@thecrewsociety.site of any unauthorised access immediately
3.4profile content
you can set a first name, optional bio (≤ 80 characters), and optional photo. you agree that:
- your name and photo represent you genuinely
- your bio does not contain html, scripts, or content that violates §04
- you hold all rights to upload the photo (it's of you, not someone else, and not under copyright restriction you don't control)
we process uploaded photos by resizing, stripping metadata (including exif location), and re-encoding to jpeg. the original file is not retained.
acceptable use
you agree not to use the service to:
4.1harm others
- harass, threaten, intimidate, stalk, dox, or defame any person
- discriminate against anyone on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, or any other characteristic
- send unsolicited sexual content
- solicit minors
- encourage or coordinate violence
4.2misrepresent
- use a false identity, photo of someone else, or claim to work at an airline you don't work at
- impersonate crew society, its staff, or anyone else
- manipulate trust ratings (collusion, fake accounts, retaliatory ratings)
4.3misuse the platform
- use the service for any commercial purpose, including advertising, recruiting, or promoting third-party products
- send spam, chain messages, or repeated unsolicited contact
- probe, scan, or test the service for vulnerabilities without our prior written authorisation
- use automated means (bots, scripts, scrapers) to access the service, except as necessary for accessibility tools
- reverse-engineer the service or extract its source code beyond what applicable law permits
- knowingly transmit malware
- bypass rate limits, region restrictions, or any other technical measure
- abuse the knock or chat systems to grief other users
4.4violate the law
- conduct any activity that violates applicable law in your jurisdiction or ours
- violate sanctions, export controls, or embargoes
4.5off-platform safety
crew society facilitates introductions; it is your responsibility to use ordinary judgment when meeting another person off-platform. we do not background-check users beyond verifying their work email. tell someone where you're going. meet in public. trust your instincts.
knocks & connections
- a knock is an expression of interest. the recipient may accept, decline, or ignore. there is no obligation to respond.
- you can have at most 5 pending knocks at one time.
- a connection is created when one party accepts the other's knock (or both parties knock each other and either accepts).
- a connection allows real-time chat between exactly two people.
- a connection ends automatically when either user's layover ends, when either user blocks the other, or when either user manually ends the layover.
trust ratings
- after a connection ends naturally (not via a block), each party may rate the other 1 to 5 stars. one rating per connection.
- ratings affect the rated user's aggregate trust score, which orders the crew list.
- be honest. we may suspend accounts that show patterns of malicious rating (e.g. mass 1-star ratings, retaliatory ratings).
- ratings cannot be undone or edited, submit thoughtfully.
chat content & privacy
- chat messages are encrypted at rest.
- chat history is deleted within 24 hours of either layover ending. do not rely on chat history for any persistent record.
- push notifications never include message content by design.
- within an active connection, both parties see all messages exchanged. there is no anonymity within a chat, you've both already accepted identity reveal at the moment of mutual knock.
- don't share content you wouldn't want the other party to screenshot. we have no technical way to prevent screenshots.
blocking
- block ends the conversation immediately, deletes its history, and prevents the blocked person from knocking you again.
- the blocked person is not told they were blocked, the conversation simply ends from their perspective. this is a deliberate privacy feature.
- you can review and lift your blocks at any time in settings → privacy → blocked users. lifting a block lets the other person see and knock you again, but it does not restore the previous conversation: the chat history was deleted at the moment of the block and is gone for good.
- the unblocked person is not notified that you lifted the block.
reporting misconduct
if another user violates §04, please report it. email contact@thecrewsociety.site with:
- your account email
- the other person's first name + airline (the most you'll know)
- anything else that might help us identify the conversation
- a description of what happened
01we review every report within 5 working days. possible outcomes:
- no action (insufficient evidence)
- warning to the reported user
